The class website will provide a copy of this disclosure
document, reminders, announcements, and instructions/descriptions of homework
assignments. I will also post an up to date calendar with assignments and their
upcoming due dates.
Course Description
and Goals:
This course will help students gain an understanding of
Utah’s culture, its growth, and development. Students will also learn about
various events that shaped the area in which we now live. It is my goal that
students will become more fully able to appreciate, relate, and participate in
the society and culture in which they live.
Materials Needed:
-One spiral note book for daily starters, notes and in-class
assignments
-pack of index cards
-pencil/pen
Attendance and
Tardiness:
I expect that students
will be on time and in class each day.
This being said, I understand that there may be times where students
will miss class. I will be supportive in allowing them the opportunity to make
up the work they missed.
Make up Work and Late Work Policies:
If Absent:
I would prefer students to
come talk to me prior to an absence. Students will be given the equivalent of
the days they missed to complete their make up work. Make up work will be
located in a file drawer by the teacher’s desk. I will do my best in keeping
the file up to date so that students can easily access the work that they may
have missed. Students MAY NOT make up assignments missed due to truancy.
Late work:
I expect that students will work hard to complete their
assignments on time. Developing this skill is imperative for success in high
school, college, and in the work place. I do realize that things come up and
assignments may be turned in late. It is with this understanding that I have
created my late work policy. I will happily
accept late work for half credit. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT TAKE WORK THE LAST WEEK
OF THE TRIMESTER!
Citizenship Grade:
A student’s citizenship
grade will be compromised of classroom behavior, and participation. Unexcused
absences and tardiness will be taken into consideration, as well as a student’s
ability to follow school and classroom rules. Cheating will NOT be tolerated
and will result in the student receiving a U for their citizenship grade.
Academic Grade:
Students will be given a
grade for their course work. Course work will include: daily starters, in-class
assignments, essays, projects, homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. There will be opportunities for students to
earn extra credit provided they have completed ALL of the assigned work
throughout the course. Cheating, including plagiarism will NOT be tolerated and
will result in a zero on that assignment.
